ADVENTURE #12

The Royal Ascot is considered one of the biggest horse racing events in the world with the Queen Anne Stakes being one of its most prestigious.   Founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, the first race at the Royal Ascot was named in her honour in 1930.  Charlie and Sam were able to obtain tickets to this premiere event.  They were very much looking forward to experiencing all the pomp and ceremony attached to this affair.

Charlie and Sam made sure they were dressed for the occasion.   Charlie purchased a feathery designer headpiece to match her dress, and Sam was outfitted in a dark suit.   They knew that high fashion and exceptional millinery would be on full display.

The Ascot racetrack is in the countryside adjoining Windsor Great Park—it’s about an hour train ride from London.  Charlie and Sam boarded the dedicated Ascot Express train with many fellow well-dressed passengers.  Everyone was eager to arrive at the destination, and the time seemed to pass quickly.  It was a short walk from the station to the racetrack.

Entering the famed racecourse, Charlie and Sam were awed by the spectacular light filled Grandstand and the massive size of the venue.  The atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation for the first Royal Procession of the Royal Ascot—the arrival of the Queen and the Royal family in horse drawn carriages.  The Royal procession arrived to cheers and applause as it made its way around the track. Charlie and Sam were caught up in the revelry of this momentous occasion in being part of British racing history.
